MINUTE of FINANCE AND GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE. 20TH DECEMBER. 1938.
38. LETTER FROM NATIONAL UNION OF RAILWAYMEN
RE INTERNATIONAL BRIGADE.
A letter, dated 13th December, was read from the National Union of Railwaymen stating that their Executive Committee had considered appeals from several of their branches to the effect that financial assistance should be made to the International Brigade and their dependants. The National Union of Railwaymen Executive Committee felt that the appeal issued on behalf of the International Brigade should be endorsed, and expressed the view that it would be appropriate if the Trades Union Congress General Council were to make a direct appeal for funds through the Trade Union Movement.
Reference was also made to the request of the International Brigade Dependants and Wounded Aid Committee for financial assistance.
IT WAS DECIDED to recommend that the previous decision arrived at, namely, "that in the circumstances no action could be taken on the lines proposed" should be adhered to.
