HISTORY OF CASE
16th Sept. Letter sent to Spanish Ambassador re the repatriation of two South Wales men, namely, Thomas and Boswell, and the case of Boswell who was killed whilst serving with the I'l [International] Brigade.
21st Sept. Letter sent to A.E.U. re the case of Boswell and asking for their comments.
4th Oct. Letter from A.E.U. stating that owing to their constitution they were unable to assist in the case of Boswell.
- Sept. Cheque for £100 for the I'l Brigade received from E.T.U.
22nd Oct. I'l. Brigade forwarded copy of financial statements.
8th Nov. I'l. Brigade forwarded first list of men of the British Battalion who were members of the T.U.Movement.
13th Dec. Letter from N.U.R. stating that their Executive felt that the appeal issued by the I'l. Brigade should be endorsed, and expressed the view that it would be appropriate if the T.U.C, were to make a direct appeal for funds through the T.U. Movement.
20th Dec. Finance & G.P.C. considered letter from N.U.R. of 13th Dec. and reference was made to the request of the I'l. Brigade for financial assistance. C'tee. DECIDED to recommend that the previous decision, namely, "that in the circumstances no action could be taken on the lines proposed" should be adhered to.
20th Dec. 21st Dec. Letter from I'l. Brigade inviting G.C. to send a representative to a meeting to be held at Earls Court in honour of those Englishmen who had been killed in Spain G.C. had above letter before them when the Chairman pointed out that this was covered by the previous decision on this Organisation. NOTED.
3rd Jan. Letter sent to I'l. Brigade stating that so far as the International Solidarity Fund is concerned, the monies donated for that purpose are specifically earmarked, and under all the circumstances the General Council had decided that no action could be taken on the lines of their suggestion of 12th Sept.
31st Jan. Letter from I'l. Brigade enclosing complete list of men belonging to Trade Unions, and stressing the urgent necessity of some help.
1st Feb. Reply sent to I'l Brigade referring to our communication of 3rd Jan.
8th Feb. Further letter from I'l. Brigade regretting decision of General Council.
20th April. Letter from I'l. Brigade appealing for a grant to the Memorial Trust Fund from the International Solidarity Fund, but if that were not possible to propose to the C'tee. representative of that Fund that they should help the I'l. Brigade in the manner they themselves think fit.
