Dear Miss Adam,
I am writing to you on the recommendation of Mr. Anthony Mouravieff, and, as further introduction, I enclose a copy of our first News Sheet, which explains who and what we are.
We have had a letter from the head of the Basque Trade Unions, (the Solidaridad) asking if anything can be done to help some of their members who are refugees in France. There are some 2,000, employed under deplorable conditions in clearing the burnt forests of the South West of France, and, as they do not get a living wage, they are in desperate need. The Solidaridad has helped them as much as it could, but as it is also maintaining a refugee colony mostly composed of mothers and children, it is at the end of its resources. Senor Mardones, who wrote to me, asked if some help could not be had from Trade Unionists in England. I have heard that the T.U.C. intends to make a fund for the Asturian miners, and I wondered whether this could not be extended to include the Basques.
We should be most grateful if you could advise us on this matter, or, in any case, give us the name of the Secretary of the Fund.
