24th August, 1939.
Dr. Betty Morgan,
National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief,
30, Eccleston Street,
Dear Dr. Morgan,
National Conference on Spanish Relief.
Thank you for your letter of the 22nd August inviting me to become a patron in connection with the National Conference
on Spanish Relief you are holding in London on September 30th and October 1st.
I regret that it will not be possible for me to accrue to your request as it is my general practice not to associate myself in a formal way with such Conferences. Of course, this does not mean any lack of sympathy with your work, but in view of my official capacity here I think it advisable to refrain from being connected with Conferences of this kind. I am sure you will readily appreciate the position.
