Dear Sir Walter Citrine,
May I present and recommend warmly to you two Basque representatives, Señor Robles Arangiz, a Basque member of the Spanish Parliament, and Señor De Mardones, the Secretary-General of the Basque Trade Unions. They desire to enlist your sympathy and your help on behalf of the many Basque families who have taken refuge in France while their breadwinners are either in prison or have perished in Spain. These families are utterly destitute. They get no help from the International Federation of Christian Trade Unions nor from the International Federation of Trade Unions.
What they ask is that the help given by the representatives of British Labour to victims of the war in Spain may be extended in some measure to these necessitous and deserving Basque families.
If you can in any way lend them a hand I shall be deeply grateful, for these gentlemen have been especially recommended to me.
With kind regards
Very sincerely yours,
Wickham Steed
Sir Walter Citrine, K.B.E.
