(c) Spain:
It was reported that following events in Spain representatives of the Communist International on instruction had invited conversations with representatives of the Labour and Socialist International, and that on the authority of a majority vote of Members of the Bureau of the Labour and Socialist International, Messrs. Vandevelde and Adler had met Messrs. Cachin and Thorez in Brussels. In the course of the conversations the Communist representatives had urged the desirability of securing agreement for immediate common action in support of the Spanish working-class.
It was reported that Mr. Gillies, British representative on the Labour and Socialist International Bureau, on behalf of the British Movement had indicated emphatic opposition to the conversations.
No commitments had been entered into, but the matter was to be the subject of discussion at a Labour and Socialist International Bureau Meeting in November.
After discussion, on the motion of Mr. Bevin, seconded by Mr. Lansbury, it was
RESOLVED: "That the British Representatives on the Labour and Socialist International should make it quite clear to the Bureau that on no account would the British Labour Movement be party to arrangements with the Communist International."
