SUBJECT. SPAIN. Telephone Conversation.
Present Miss Mc.Donald Mr. Mitchison.
Mr. Mitchison phoned on the 16th January, to say that he had seen Mr. Middleton and Mr. Gillies and was going to Spain. He had left a letter dated 28th December from Mr. Busch to Mr. Pritt with them and they were going to try and arrange an audience for him with the Spanish Government through the British Ambassador. He had received a telegram from Mr. Bush saying as regards the audience, would he approach Mr. Citrine who had remained in London (E.C. of the I.F.T.U. was on in Paris).
I promised to have a talk with Mr. Gillies about this. Mr. Gillies said that Mr. Arthur Henderson had written a letter of introduction to the British Embassy in Spain. Mr. Mitchison had said that he would like to see Mr. Citrine on the Friday or Saturday prior to going to Spain if that was possible. I discussed this with Mr. Gillies who thought that in the circumstances it would not be necessary.
