I haven pleasure in enclosing herewith copy of a Manifesto published in Spain and sent to London some weeks ago. As you will see the forces of resistance and opposition to France inside Spain have reached an agreement whereby laying down political conditions to restore the democratic regime, which was destroyed by the combined help of nazi-fascist force of arms and political terror.
I feel sure you will, as a democrat, be interested in knowing the facts of the fight and work Spaniards are doing against Hitler's friends, and that you will do your best to let British public opinion know these facts, thus encouraging a better understanding of the Spanish present problem.
The signatories of Manifesto represent the majority of Spanish democrats, and the whole Trade Union movement. They include all the Republican Parties, the Socialist Party, and the two powerful organizations of Syndicates, which for three quarters of a century control all the organized workers in Spain.
The Spanish people hope the United Nations will help them to have back the indisputable rights that were taken from them, and I think you could do a great service to the cause of democracy by voicing the efforts they are doing to bring about a peaceful solution to the Spanish drama.
I further think that in looking forward to the help and sympathy of every democrat everywhere, the Spaniards would appreciate most, the help of British democrats, as these know better what it means to fight alone, as the Spaniards did, against the nazi foe.
Trusting you will welcome my appeal to you,
