Dear Sir Walter
In my letter of the 1st October, in reply to your own letter of the 14th August, I gave you certain information concerning Manuel Marquez Sanchez, which His Majesty's Ambassador in Spain reported that he had received from a truly reliable source.
I have now had a further report from the Ambassador who states that he has been able to obtain no further information on the subject, and moreover that the competent Spanish department claim to be unable to trace the case at all, in spite of careful investigations; the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs have therefore asked if they could be furnished with further details.
Is there any additional information which you wish to be passed on to the Ambassador at Madrid in order to enable the Spanish authorities to pursue their enquiries?
Yours sincerely
Ernest Bevin.
The Right Honourable
Sir Walter Citrine, K.B.E.
