SHALL THE DICTATORS DICTATE TO BRITAIN?
BRITAIN has been humiliated before the whole world in order to placate the Fascist Dictators.
The Prime Minister and the "National" Government have sacrificed Mr. Eden as the first instalment of the price for a "deal" with Mussolini and Hitler.
Mr. Eden has been removed by order of Foreign Governments.
Mussolini recently made it perfectly plain, through one of his tame journalists, that "there could be no improvement in the relations between Italy and Great Britain so long as the British foreign policy was directed by Mr. Eden."
Hitler, too, was brutally frank in his recent Reichstag speech that he had no use for the League of Nations or for collective security or for those who believed in them. To Hitler and Mussolini these are merely objects for ridicule and denunciation. The Fascist Dictators will not tolerate either legal or moral restraints that restrict the pursuit of their aggressive aims.
And so Mr. Eden, who believed in League ideals and the principles of international law and order, is no longer British Foreign Secretary.
His departure from the Foreign Office, and the cause of his going, have produced dismay and anxiety in every democratic country, especially in the United States and in France. But the Fascist Powers are openly jubilant.
Mussolini has been pursuing a policy of blackmail against Britain since his war of conquest in Abyssinia.
