JANUARY BULLETIN

FEBRUARY 16th.    On Wednesday February 16th, a great meeting will be held in the Kingsway Hall, London, W.C. to celebrate the anniversary of the victory of the Popular Front at the Spanish General Elections.   Details will be issued later, but meanwhile all Local Committees are asked to elect representatives to attend.   Seats will be reserved for them on the platform and hospitality arranged.  Send in applications for blocks of seats in the hall as soon as possible.

MEDICAL AID FOR SPAIN.   A new pamphlet with many illustrations describing our work in Spain is now ready  - price 3d -. Please send for supplies.

ANOTHER AMBULANCE.  Lord Faringdon, a member of the Central Spanish Medical Aid Committee, went off to Spain just before Christmas.   He drove his own Rolls Royce car which has been converted into an ambulance and which he will present to the Spanish Government.    It was filled to overflowing with cigarettes, chocolate and milk for the wounded.  While in Spain, Lord Faringdon will visit our hospitals on the Aragon and Madrid fronts and also the new base hospital.

The Auxilliary Auto-chir supplied by the Civil Service Clerical Association left England just after Christmas carrying a plate inscribed "who lives if freedom dies".  The vehicle was of course camouflaged to evade if possible the notice of bombing planes.   The equipment included shelving and cupboards, a portable electric generating plant to provide light for any building taken over as an emergency hospital and a portable X-ray apparatus for which the generator will also supply the power.
The Society of Lithographic Artists and Designers, who have already supplied the auto-chir described in a previous Bulletin, have now paid for the electric generator (£366) and accepted responsibility for the X-ray apparatus (£165). Dark room equipment, tanks, intensifying screens etc. are now needed and will cost about £120. Who will provide them? We must have them; the X-ray apparatus is useless without them.  Films, developing and fixing material will cost us about £30 a month. Will some other organisation accept responsibility for this regular expense?

Each complete bed costs £10. The new base hospital needs at least 600 beds.
