NO PASARAN
The past month has been one of the most grim in the whole course of the Spanish struggle. Barcelona has fallen, a victim to Chamberlain's " non-intervention " policy. And although we must all have faith in the ultimate triumph of the Spanish people, the tale of its present sufferings can never be told.
In the alleviation of this suffering the Spanish Medical Aid Committee has played its part, and the staff at New Oxford Street has been kept busy until late into the night sending out consignment after consignment of drugs, anesthetics, dressings, medical and other foods. X-ray films, surgical instruments, disinfectants, blankets, marquees, and quantities of anti-gangrene and anti-tetanus sera in response to appeal after appeal by telegram, telephone and letter from the Spanish authorities. 
A message received from Dr. Audrey Russell, medical adviser to the International Relief Commission in Spain: "Could you possibly send out some anaesthetics, morphia, and dressings . . . and we will see that supplies go immediately to wherever the bombing has taken place, so that at least the wounded get morphia and dressings even if they cannot have anything more in the way of surgical attention."
In reply, we sent out immediately by air consignments of morphine, chloroform and compressed dressings.
A telephone message from the Co-ordinating Committee in Paris asked for immediate action to provide equipment for the many emergency hospitals that must be improvised on the Catalan Front. Our immediate response was an authorisation to buy and rush into Spain on our behalf a thousand blankets and large quantities of anti-gangrene and anti-tetanus sera.
