BULLETIN,  May 1937.

BILBAO:
The great need for food and medical materials in Bilbao has been promptly met by the action of the Committee.
A few weeks ago we were able to enlist the services of a British destroyer to take £300 worth of medical material to Bilbao.  Since then we have dispatched two ambulances and a further £500 worth of medical material and food, all of which have arrived safely.
We have collaborated with the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief in the excellent work that is being done and our Hon. Secretary, Mrs. Leah Manning is now in Bilbao organising the evacuation of the children.   She writes:-
"I've seen some horrors on the Madrid front, but nothing to compare with the position here.....
They've got a new and pretty vile technique in the tiny villages - don't even trouble to bomb them (makes them too uncomfortable as quarters when they are taken) - simply swoop low in their planes and machine-gun everything that moves.  Children, sheep, cows - everything in sight.
We had eleven kiddies brought in here last night from a village of 150 inhabitants. One little chap of a year and a half had eleven wounds.....
Have done a terrific lot of work since I've been here and have in prospect more than 10,500 evacuations.....the delight with which the work has been hailed in Euzkadia is supreme....
We've had only nine air raids so far to-day. Nothing very bad, but very nervewracking for the people.

ASTURIAS:
The Asturian miners are acknowledged to be the finest body of fighters in Spain, and. their heroic struggle, cut off as they are from the rest of Spain and from Europe, will long be remembered in history.
Their need is as desperate as that of the Basques; there is a terrible shortage of medical material of all kinds, and we have had a request forwarded through Miss Megan Lloyd George in the following terms:-
