SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS URGENTLY REQUIRED IN SPAIN
The attached letter from Mr. Stephenson of the Surgical Manufacturing Co. Ltd. bears out my own information regarding the urgent need of immediately sending a consignment of surgical instruments to Spain.  I have before me a list of these instruments, the total cost of which is £2,161.5.0: this, please note, is the absolute minimum estimate for those things most urgently needed.
This afternoon I spoke with Viscount Churchill of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee and he informed me that the Committee cannot undertake to meet the whole of this sum, as it has other expenses to meet. He is anxious, however, to assist as far as possible in raising this amount, and suggested that I should at once approach you with a view to having you consider helping from the National Council of Labour Fund.
The instruments are already packed and can be sent off immediately half the required amount is guaranteed, and I would therefore ask you to put this matter before your Council to be dealt with at tomorrow's meeting.
Hoping that you can assist in this matter, as it is obviously one of the utmost urgency and importance to the Spanish anti-fascist fighters,
