Secretary's.
23rd March, 1939.
Mr. B. Wilson,
Preston Trades and Labour Council,
Labour Institute,
Lancaster Road,
Preston.
Dear Mr. Wilson,
INTERNATIONAL BRIGADE.
I am in receipt of your letter of the 20th instant stating that you have received a request from the Manchester Section of the International Brigade that your Council should receive a deputation regarding assistance in the attempt to raise £50,000 and asking for our advice on this matter.
I may say that the General Council some time ago received a request for a grant from the International Brigade Dependants and Wounded Aid Committee, but in view of the fact that our appeal for Spain was made specifically for the workers in Spain the General Council decided that they were unable to accede to the request of the international Brigade.
The body in question is not a prescribed organisation and it is known that some of our Unions are either rendering assistance to members who have been with the International Brigade or have contributed to their Central Fund.
I trust this information will be helpful to you.
Yours sincerely,
Assistant Secretary.
