Transport House, Smith Square,
S.W.1.
Dear Sir Walter,
I desire to thank you for your kindness in arranging for Dr. Morgan and myself to see you, Mr. Tewson and Mr. Gillies yesterday.
There are some points arising out of our interview on which no doubt you would like further information.
Immediately after the interview I notified the person in charge of the ambulances which left for Paris to go to Barcelona that he should wait until he had reoeived further instructions from us as to the disposal of the surplus ambulances and equipment.
The following wire was sent to the Sanitary Committee at Barcelona today:-
" Comite Central Sanitat, Diagonal, Barcelona.
Informed two ambulances belonging Scottish Unit destroyed Madrid. Can two of ours with necessary equipment be sent to replaoe them. SPANISH MEDICAL AID COMMITTEE ".
so that if it is possible to get the ambulances to Madrid the needs of the Scottish Unit will be met.
I have discussed with Lord Churchill the relationship between the Sanitary Committee at Barcelona and the Spanish Red Cross. While Lord Churchill was in Madrid he met the President of the Spanish Red Cross Society and outlined what steps had been taken to utilise the service of the British Unit. The President of the Spanish Red Cross Society thoroughly approved of the arrangements, particularly in view of the fact that the Unit was to work under the direction of the Sanitary Committee. No serious differences
