Re Scottish Ambulance Unit.
The other day at the National Council of Labour, Mr. D. Grenfell, M.P. reported on his visit to Spain as a member of the group of M.P's who visited there recently. In the course of his remarks, Mr. Grenfell spoke very highly of the services which had been rendered by the Scottish Ambulance Unit in Madrid. So much so, indeed, that I am of the opinion that our people would be ready to approve of further financial assistance being given to the Scottish Unit from the International Solidarity Fund. I know that the Unit is at present being overhauled and that several numbers are returning to this country.
I have been wondering whether you could approach Sir Daniel Stevenson to see whether one or more of the ambulances could be marked in such a way as to identify them with the British Labour Movement. Possibly the ambulance could be painted something like this. "The Scottish Ambulance Unit in association with the British Labour Movement", or if that was felt, to be undesirable for political reasons, "in association with the British Trade Union Movement" .
