Communique by the French General Confederation of Labour.
The administrative commission of the C.G.T. renews its declarations of solidarity to the heroic defenders of liberty in Spain. The workers of France have as much as anyone the desire for peace and the will to defend it. They despise the campaign of libel and blackmail led by the reactionary forces who are found on every occasion in the service of the enemies of democracy and even of France.
The workers of France are decided to maintain their efforts of solidarity which aim at attenuating, for their brothers in Spain, the evils that the civil war, willed by the rebel chiefs and the Fascist forces, make them suffer. They refuse to consider the possibility of yielding to arbitrary foreign demands tending to forbid them the manifestation of this solidarity.
In view of the gravity of the situation, in the presence of the provocative exploitations of it by the reactionary forces, adversaries of the Ressemblement du Front Populaire, the Administrative Commission of the C.G.T. reminds the federations, groups of unions and unions that it alone is commissioned to decide upon the general action of the workers' movement. It calls upon militants and union members to bear in mind that the power of the organised working class is made up of respect by all for trade union discipline.
