Mr. J. Hallsworth,
National Union of Distributive and Allied Workers,
Oakley,
Wilmslow Road,
Fallowfield,
MANCHESTER, 14.
Dear Mr. Hallsworth,
INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY FUND.
Referring to your letter of the 8th instant, you are quite right in your assumption that no contribution has been made from the above Fund to the National Memorial Fund for the International Brigade.
The reason for not making such a grant has been that the monies contributed to the Spanish section of the Fund have been for the relief of "Spanish Workers". Notwithstanding this it is, of course, true, as you suggest, that the National Council of Labour was not responsible in any way for the organisation of the International Brigade.
An additional point which you will remember arose when the question of a grant was considered was the legal position of certain Unions, including your own.
I trust this information will meet your requirements.
Yours sincerely,
Assistant Secretary.
