Dear Mr. Spackman,
INTERNATIONAL BRIGADE ASSOCIATION.
I have received from Mr. Francis, Secretary of your London Bookbinders' Branch, a letter with regard to the International Brigade Association, and I am following our normal practice as you know of writing to your head office on the matter.
The answer to the query of Mr. Francis is that the Spanish Fund raised during the Spanish war was for the distinct purpose of supplying assistance to Spaniards only, and consequently has not been used for assistance to the International Brigade.
As a matter of fact there was, and apparently still is, a special fund for the International Brigade sponsored by Mrs. Charlotte Haldane and others, with which we have had no official connection.
However, since the close of the Spanish war the International Solidarity Fund has had the task of maintaining up to 250 Spanish seamen in this country, a number of whom are still dependent on our support.
I trust this information will enable you to answer the query of Mr. Francis.
