(Spanish Youth)

Dear Friends,
The 14th of April is a date which awakens the highest hopes in the minds of all the Spanish people.
On this day, in the year 1931, Spaniards in every part of the country showed at certain Municipal elections their determination to take the path of progress and freedom, and to throw off the old shackles of absolutism, corruption, backwardness and misery which had oppressed them for centuries.
It would be far too long a task to describe the work of the Spanish Republic.    Its object, in which to a large extent it succeeded, was to vanish illiteracy, to carry out agrarian reform, in short to find a solution for those same problems which for more than a century have been solved in Republican France and  in your own country of Great Britain.
The 14th of April is a date which will be remembered by thousands of Spaniards who are now enduring terrible hardships in the French and African concentration camps.
We, the young Spanish refugees in Great Britain, would therefore like to make it an occasion for cheering and encouraging these Spanish fighters who are now prisoners in foreign lands.
We are certain that we can count on your help in this enterprise, and we would therefore like to explain to you our scheme.
The Spanish Youth of Great Britain in agreement with other Spanish institutions, is organising a "Fourteenth of April Fund", the proceeds of which will be used to send, by the courtesy and with the kind assistance of the Society of Friends, a parcel of food, tobacco and soap to each of the Spaniards interned in the concentration camps of France and Africa.
The propaganda expenses of this campaign will be defrayed entirely by the Spanish Republicans living in Great Britain, in order that the whole of the donations from British friends may be sent to these Spanish prisoners.    For this purposes each member of "Spanish youth" has agreed to give up a day's wages.
During the period fixed for the receipt of donations, balance sheets will be published.
