Mr. Little, President of the A.E.U., handing instructions to one of the drivers of the first A.E.U. lorries for the Spanish Government. Mr. Jack Tanner, of the Executive Council, and also of Voluntary Industrial Aid for Spain, Mr. W. Hutchinson and Mr. Openshaw of the E.C., are also wishing the driver good luck.
Members of the public have a right to something more than the ordinary balance sheet from new organisations such as Voluntary Industrial Aid for Spain, that ask for money. Otherwise they cannot give intelligently. Giving intelligently is a public duty.
Donors to organisations that have been running for many years have had time to satisfy themselves that their money is being well spent. But ability to use money conscientiously and efficiently should be authenticated in the case of new organisations. For if extravagance and inefficiency are not brought to light, there is a premium on their continuation.
