SPANISH FUND.
I have your letter of the 8th instant in regard to the above matter. I think it should be generally understood that catholics are very strong in the ranks of the Government supporters.
I am enclosing for your information copy of a pamphlet which we have had prepared, and which you will find very useful in regard to the historical aspect of the question.
In regard to the administration of the fund, this is being administered by a Joint Committee of representatives of the International Federation of Trade Unions, and the Labour and Socialist International in the closest consultation with our colleagues in Spain.
I am expecting to receive a detailed report any post now in regard to further assistance which has been rendered, but you will probably have soon the press reports in regard to the services which have been already rendered. Over £4,000 worth of anti-tetanus serum have been provided for hospitals and field ambulances. Food supplies have been sent to various centres in Spain, and large quantities of cigarettes have been delivered, particularly for the comfort of the wounded and of those in the fighting line. In addition to this, the British Medical Aid Unit which left London a few weeks ago is guaranteed maintenance from our fund.
