Dear Sirs,
We confirm our telephonic communication of this afternoon with Mr. Bell, with regard to the 14,952 sacks of Potatoes purchased on your behalf, for shipment to Spain.
As we informed you in ours of the 24th instant, the quantity of 14,278 bags was shipped, and we have just received a telephonic communication from our Rouen office this afternoon to the effect that these have arrived.
Unfortunately, the Spanish frontier at Cerbère is closed, but our representative is unable to say whether the frontier has been closed on the French or the Spanish side. In the circumstances, he asked us for our instructions.
In accordance with your suggestion we nave since telephoned our representative at Rouen to the effect that he should get into communication with Mr. Schevenels of the International Federation of Trade Unions, 9 Avenue d'Orsay, Paris 7, and accept his instructions.
Also, we would draw your attention to the fact that we have still on hand at Garston 674 bags short-shipped as mentioned in our letter of yesterday's date. Disposal of these will, of course, be affected by the present and future situation. In the meantime, they are being warehoused suitably.
During the conversation with our Rouen office, we were informed that they had been in communication with the French C.W.S. on the subject, who stated that 400 tons of
