1937. HISTORY OF CASE
April 7 Statement of International Solidarity Fund for Spanish Relief, to 31 March 1937.
April 10 Confirmation of order, dated 5 April, to C.W.S. for consignment of foodstuffs to be shipped to Spain by s.s. "BACKWORTH". (Approx. value £2,000).
April 19 Letter to I.F.T.U. detailing goods despatched to Bilbao by s.s. "BACKWORTH".
April 15 Letter to I.F.T.U. suggesting Jouhaux be asked to approach Blum with a view to securing protection for French ships sailing to Spain for humanitarian purposes only.
April 19 Letter from I.F.T.U. stating that Jouhaux had taken the necessary steps as suggested, but no reply had been received from Blum.
April 23 Intimation from I.F.T.U. that Blum had assured the C.G.T. "that he will give the greatest attention to this problem in order to find a rapid solution".
April 29 I.T.F. supply information re Spanish ships sailing under German flags with cargoes of munitions from Germany to rebel ports. [Struck through in pencil]

May 7 Further information from I.T.S. re shipment of phosphates from Antwerp to the rebel port of Pasajes. Reports of German formations stationed at Pasajes. reference also made to ships under flags of various nationalities loading arms, munitions and men at German ports for shipment to rebel ports. May 26 Copy of appeal addressed by Scottish Trades Union Congress on behalf of Basque children. Requested that donations be sent to Transport House.
June 7 Letter to I.F.T.U. re their request to C.W.S. Bank to transfer £10,000 to Georges Moha, Paris.
June 8 I.F.T.U. reply to effect that transaction relates to purchase of 50 lorries for Spanish section of International Solidarity Fund for use at Onteniente Hospital.
June 10 Request to C.W.S. to arrange shipment of consignment of foodstuffs to Gijon.
