I have noticed in the press that the Trade Unions Congress is getting together a fund for the relief of Spanish Government refugees, and I am therefore taking the liberty of writing to you to say that there are a large number of these refugees at Bayonne, among them many women and children. I have been to see them, and feel sure that they would be grateful for any assistance that could be given them. I cannot do much personally to help so many (there are about eight hundred) so suggest that if you see fit, a small part of the funds referred to might be sent to the Spanish Consul at Bayonne who would then administer it to the more desperate cases to whom Christmas cannot
