Dear friends and brothers:-
The Syndicates of BarceIona, comprised in the "Unión General de Trabajadores" (F.S.I.) take great pleasure in greeting you most heartily through this Local Federation.
The workers of Barcelona are well aware of your efforts to a change of the political direction of your Government in regard to the republican Spain now struggling for its independence and, at the same time, for the universal ideal of democracy and peace.
They are also well acquainted with your campaigns against the disgraceful politic of "non-intervention" applied in the unilateral way, which puts Spain in irons, and prevents our provision of the necessary arms to throw the germans and italian invaders out of our country.
Finally, they know the value of the splendid contribution of the Trade Unions in matters of shipping victuals and sanitary equipment to the republican Spain.
The workers of Barcelona feel deeply grateful to you and the whole of the proletarian class of the world for such evidence of solidarity and take advantage of this opportunity -while thanking you for your cooperation- to say that your encouragement has greatly impressed our spirit of antifascism and that this spirit shall never be allow to pail no matter when and how circumstances may be hard.
Our war can only end with the definite victory of democratic Spain, disciplined and strongly attached to its Government of National Union, and this firm decision is responsible for the fact that, in spite of the considerable and barefaced help of Hitler and Mussolini to their lackeys the rebel generals, our Army has been able to endure the most severe assaults and transfer from several weeks of resistance to the brilliant attack of the Ebro, not to speak of the strong counter-attack in Extremadura, thus breaking the german-italian offensive leading to the capture of Valencia. This is the result of our resistance, against the claudication of the great democracies.
