Dear Mr. Chester,
SHOES FOR SPAIN.
Referring to our telephone conversation this morning I am appending two copies of directions in regard to the consignment of the 270 pairs of shoes which have been very kindly provided by your Executive for assistance in Spain.
Whilst it would be possible to send the goods by the long sea route the insurance charges are so high and the time involved is so long that I think it would be better for them to be sent overland from Rouen, a course which we have adopted with our last few consignments.
As I stated on the telephone, I imagine that the firm in Bristol will have no difficulty in arranging shipment to Rouen, but should any difficulties be encountered probably you would get into touch with me again when we will do our best to assist.
I should be glad if you would ask the firm to inform you of the arrangements they are making for shipment, together with the name of the boat by which the goods are being despatched. I can then warn Schevenels in Paris to inform Santiago, our representative in Spain, that the shoes are on their way and to expect their arrival in the course of a few days after the date of sailing.
I should also be glad if you would convey to your Executive our deep appreciation of their practical gesture and assure them that we are confident that the best possible use will be made of their gift.
