HISTORY OF CASE.
1936.
July 29 Letters to Co-operative Wholesale Society Limited and the Co-operative Union, informing them of the appeal launched by the N.C.L. on behalf of the Spanish workers, and asking that consideration be given to the possibility of their organisations assisting the Fund.
July 31 Letter from American Labor Chest intimating that steps were being taken to secure support of American Unions for International Solidarity Fund for Spain. Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, and the International Ladies Garment Workers Trade Union had already donated $5,000 each.
August 18 Co-operative Union write that in view of the probability of an appeal being issued by the International Co-operative Alliance on behalf of the co-operators of Spain, the Union did not consider it possible to take any action in connection with the N.C.L. Fund.
August 19 Cable from International Ladies' Garment Workers' Trade Union of America advising transfer of ten thousand dollars to Solidarity Fund.
August 21 I.L.G.W. of America cable further ten thousand dollars.
September 3 C.W.S. intimate that they have decided to make a grant of 200 guineas to Fund.
September 21 Letter from N.U.R. enclosing copy of letter from I.T.F. in which it is stated that Nathans had been given to understand at an interview at the offices of the Spanish Socialist Party, in Madrid, that "nothing had been seen of the results of the relief movement of the I.F.T.U, and L.S.I."
September 21  Circular letter from I.F.T.U, intimating that a Spanish Committee of the International Solidarity Fund had been set up in Madrid for the organisation of relief work.
October 30 Letter to I.F.T.U, informing them that £180 worth of surgical dressings, instruments and other medical supplies were being sent direct to Gijon.
November 9 statement from I.F.T.U. relating to action taken to assist Spanish workers from International Solidarity Fund, and particulars of foodstuffs, etc, sent to Spain.
December 16  Letter to I.F.T.U, informing them that General Council had decided to grant £1,000 to Spanish Relief Cttee under auspices of Standing Joint Committee of Industrial Women's Organisations from Solidarity Fund for the purchase of ready made woollen goods for despatch to Spain for Christmas.
December 30  Letter from I.F.T.U. indicating shipments made to Spain, apart from Solidarity Fund.
