THE WORKING CLASS SAN HAVE NO OTHER ARMY THAN THE RED ARMY IN THE SERVICE OF THE REVOLUTION
In Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia the military facist rising was quelled by the swift reaction of the working masses. It was not a purely spontaneous reaction as has often been supposed; there was a big spontaneous upheval of the masses as in any truly popular revolutionary movement, but the iniative and conscious direction of the struggle come from the respective parties and organizations of the working class.
The necessity of continuing the struggle against facism and carrying on the civil war provoked by the officers and the whole of Spanish reaction forced us rapidly to organize the workers and peasants whom these events changed into combattants. This army will not be in the service of the bourgeois repulic but in the service of the proletarian revolution.
It is said that our combattants need to be given discipline under a unified command. We agree. We have made ourselves the advocates of unity in the struggle both at the front and behind the lines, and of a unified Command. But to achieve this it is not necessary to organize a regular a-
