The Trades union Congress General Council,
Confirming the message conveyed to you today through our London Branch, we beg to advise having received an intimation from the Steamship Co. to the effect that the owners of the s.s. ASHWORTH - by which steamer we hoped to effect shipment of the balance of the goods outstanding on your account - have refused to accept any general cargo for this vessel. As you are aware, we had previously been making efforts to find a more convenient vessel to send the goods forward and today, have heard of the s.s. PENTHAMES loading at Cardiff for Valencia about the 18th/20th instant. Subject to our receiving authority from you we will endeavour to arrange shipment of the goods in question by this steamer and we look forward to having your instructions today. In case, however, you do not desire shipment to be effect to Valencia we are still making enquiries for a Barcelona boat and will let you know the result of our investigations as early as possible.
In your letter of yesterday's date, you state that whilst we have quoted for Sweet Biscuits we have not given a quotation for Ships Biscuits, but in this respect would refer you to our offer of the 13th instant, in which we gave prices for Cabin Biscuits. This is the generally accepted term for Ships Biscuits.
