We beg to refer to our telephonic conversation with you on Friday morning in which you called for quotations for various lines of foodstuffs for shipment to Bilbao.
We have been pursuing enquiries, and are able to give you quotations f.o.b. Liverpool / London at our option in respect of all the lines you mentioned.
Your instructions that shipment of the goods will have to be effected to Bilbao is occasioning considerable difficulty, as from information we have obtained from the steamship companies operating between this country and northern Spanish ports, sailings direct to Bilbao or even with transhipment at Antwerp (a usual route) have been indefinitely suspended.
We are examining the possibility of effecting shipment to Bordeaux with a view to having transhipment effected at this port to Bilbao, and are in communication with correspondents in France to whom this suggestion was submitted by telegram yesterday. We have not received a reply this morning, and will have to request your indulgence so far as the question of furnishing you with the cost of transport from this
