HELP FOR SPANISH COMRADES
I have had a large number of queries from Sections about second hand clothes for Spain. I have to say that it is impossible for various reasons to make use of old or used clothes and I hope that Section members will pass this information on to any enquirers. As I said in my previous letter, the need is urgent for new knitted garments. In reply to queries about patterns for certain men's garments, the following are suggested:
For Mittens - 13 (N), page 71 in '"Woolcraft" (6d. Patons and Baldwins)
For Sweaters and Pullovers - Leaflets 13, 156 or 174 in the "Golden Eagle" Knitting Wools Series, (2d each); No.2693 of Paton and Baldwins "Helps to Knitters" (2d); or page 12 in the Jaeger Handknitted Woollies for Men (6d)
We are very grateful to all Sections which have already responded to the appeal by gifts of knitted garments, wool or
money. The wool which has been sent is being knitted up. Some Sections whose members are unable to knit have asked whether they should send money or buy garments locally and send them to me. I think it will be best to send the cash here as we expect to be able to purchase garments at special terms and money gifts will therefore go further in this way than spent in retail shops throughout the country.
APPEAL FOR AUSTRIAN COMRADE
Many Sections have already sent contributions to the above fund but the appeal will continue right through the winter and I hope that Sections which have not been able to send a donation will do so later so that we can continue giving help to our comrade from tine to time throughout the year. She asks me to thank the British Labour Women for what they have done and are doing for her in these dark days.
