Miss Hills, Sir Stafford Cripps' Secretary, telephoned just after you had gone down to the meeting.
She says that she wrote Sir Walter with regard to Francisco de Modones some time ago, and received an acknowledgement from you as Sir Walter was in the Commission.
This man was an active Trade Unionist in Spain, and is badly in need of a little assistance. She wrote to ask Sir Walter if there was any Trade Union fund which could assist him. He has to leave this country on the 25th so the matter is rather urgent. The suggestion you put before in your letter about the French, was not of any good because the French people are already in touch with the I.F.T.U., and she wants to know whether there is any fund which could assist him through our own Trade Union Movement.
She said your letter left it a little bit vague as to whether Sir Walter would reply later or not.
I said I would pass her message on to Sir Walter.
