Dear Mr. Carthy,
Confirming our telephone conversation of yesterday, we are pleased to be able to inform you that Mr. Arenaza arrival in London will expedite the embarcation of all, or the greater part, of the Basque and Spanish sailors who are now being so generously supported by your organisation in England.
He has already been able to engage a batch of ten and has been informed that seventeen more will be needed in a few days' time. He is also in touch with other shipowners, whose ships fly neutral flags, and expects to receive further requests for crews.
At the same time we should like to refer to a letter we have received from the Basque first engineer, Sr. Don * Barañano  who is one of the Grimsby group, although actually living at 211 Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes. Sr. Barañano's wife is here with him, but he has two sons and two daughters, aged 26, 22, 19 and 15 respectively, in France, whom he wishes to bring to England. The eldest son has already passed the examination for marine engineers; the younger has yet to take this examination but has completed his apprenticeship. We quite appreciate the difficulties which would arise in the present circumstances, but we would like to put forward his request in case it might be possible to arrange such a transfer when Sr. Barañano has found some employment and is able to support his family.
