Dear Mr Tewson,
I very much regret to have to tell you that I have had a most disturbing interview with the following seamen:
Gerardo Moran, at Cardiff, R. Abajas, at London.
Sebastian Goitia -do-
Angel Sanchez -do-
Mario Gandiaga -do-
These men called to see me this morning, and adopted so belligerent a manner that I was forced to call in representatives from Scotland Yard to prevent disorder. They said that they did not wish, nor were they receiving, any assistance from the T.U.C. or the N.U.S., and they demanded their share of the money we had obtained from the Mid-Atlantic Shipping Company, which, as you know, we intend to hand over to you to administer in the best way possible on behalf of all the seamen.
In view of the fact that these men were obviously intending to cause as much trouble as possible to all parties concerned, we felt that it was better to pay them their share of £10 each, pointing out, at the same time, that they could make no further claims on the charity of English organisations and on the funds made available by the Mid-Atlantic Shipping Company.
I told them that I would convey this information to you, which fact did not disturb them in the least, as they say that they are receiving adequate assistance from private families. I suggest it would be in the interests of all parties concerned if you communicated these facts to your representatives at Cardiff, since, of course, this type of behaviour may cause other seamen to become troublesome if they find that these men have been allowed "to get away with it."
