POSITION OF SPANISH SEAMEN.
With further reference to your letter of the 10th instant on the subject of the position of Spanish seamen, I have to say that a conference of the British section of the International Transportworkers' Federation was duly held at Transport House on Monday last, 13th instant, at 3. 0p.m.
The Conference decided to recommend the respective Unions to collectively contribute an amount not exceeding £1,000, divided between the Unions pro rata to membership. It was also decided to recommend that the administration of the funds available to the Spanish seamen should be entrusted to the National Union of Seamen who would draw the amount required from the funds available in the hands of the Trades Union Congress and to which body the contributions from the British section of the I.T.F. would be sent.
I enclose a copy of the report of the Conference together with a copy of my letter to the Transport Unions appealing for their contributions to be forwarded to you as quickly as possible.
I am laying the appeal before my Executive Committee tomorrow and will let you know the result.
