Dear Mr. Tewson,
I have to thank you for your letter of yesterday enclosing a list of Spanish ships lying in the United Kingdom ports, together with the names of the Captain or First Officer of certain of the ships, and the number of crew on each vessel. I have compared your list with those furnished by our port Officers, and find that the [Arizai] Mendi and the [Aya] Mendi" have sailed from Birkenhead. I have also to add the following ships which do not appear on your list, showing the number of crew remaining on board in brackets.
"Arindi Mendi" (3)
"Astoi mendi" (Nil) at Cardiff,
"Marte" (1) at Barry,
"Ixturi Mendi" (3) at Port Talbot.
The returns in our possession show that there are at present 38 ships in the United Kingdom ports which had 316 seamen on board,
/but
H V. Tewson, Esq.
