LEADERS OF THE SPANISH AGRICULTURAL WORKERS' UNION
I am in receipt of your letter of the 26th instant enclosing a copy of a letter which you have received from Oran in respect of leaders of the Spanish Agricultural Workers' Union.
It is very difficult to determine what useful action can be taken in this matter.     So far as our own Foreign Office is concerned, whist they can take action in the case of Britons, it is very difficult to interfere in the domestic affairs of another country and the action taken in that country in respect of their own nationals.
I will, however, get into touch with Mr. Schevenels, General Secretary of the International Federation of Trade Unions, to see if there are any suggestions he can make in regard to the matter.
One of the points we have to watch in connection with all these cases of persecution in other countries is that any interference which can be traced in any way or even be assumed to emanate from a Trade Union
