Dear Lord Halifax,
TRADE UNION  LEADERS IN SPAIN.
Since we last wrote to you about the imprisonment and execution of trade union leaders in Spain, we have received such urgent appeals from their friends that we are induced to approach you again in reference to this matter.
Our attention has been specially drawn to the case of LARGO CABALLERO's son who is still in prison. Largo Cabellero, as you are aware, was the General Secretary of the former Spanish T.U.C. and at one time Prime Minister. Another case is that of RAFAEL HENCHE, ex-Mayor of Madrid who has been condemned to death and is likely to be shot.
We had hoped that with the lapse of time there would have been a diminution in the severity of the methods of repression adopted by the Spanish authorities, but we regret to learn there has been no change, and the sole defence of these men must be sought in influences beyond the borders of their own country. We earnestly appeal to you, therefore, to consider whether you can again see your way to advise your representative in Spain to intervene with the authorities there, and to ask them to give effect now to the promise made by General Franco at the end of last year that mercy would be exercised in dealing with their
