In Sir Walter Citrine's absence I am replying to your letter of 16th November with regard to our friend Francisco Largo Caballero. We, like you, were very shocked to hear the recent news of the danger to which he is exposed, and we immediately approached the Authorities in this country on his behalf. You will, of course, understand that we say nothing further at the moment, but sincerely trust that our intervention will be successful. Yours sincerely, Assistant Secretary.
