Dear Sir,
I am naturally apprehensive about the latest news from Spain and feel that no time should be lost in doing all that is humanly possible to assist our Comrades in their terrible struggle.
In these circumstances I requested my Executive Committee to deal with the position and the following message has this day been despatched to
VEGA, GENERAL SECRETARY, U.G.T., BARCELONA.
MY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE IN SESSION ADMIRE YOUR EPIC STAND FOR FREEDOM AND DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS.      PRESSING GOVERNMENT TO-DAY TO REMOVE EMBARGO ON ARMS, TO OPEN FRONTIERS AMD RENDER FULL ASSISTANCE IN YOUR STRUGGLE FOR DEMOCRACY AND WORLD PEACE. SQUANCE.
and they have decided to (a) send a message to the U.G.T. in Barcelona, as above, and approach Mr. Chamberlain with a view to him receiving a deputation and (b) they have requested me to approach the T.U.C. with a view to that body appointing a deputation to Mr. Chamberlain demanding arms for Spain, the opening of frontiers and the rendering of all possible assistance to them in their hour of need.
