Dear Dr. Negrin,
LARGO CABALLERO.
Some time ago you sent to me a telegram asking me to do what I could to prevent our friend Largo Caballero from being extradited to Spain.
I have had enquiries made and have been informed that there is at present no reason to credit the report that the Vichy Authorities intend to agree to his extradition. However, precautions have been taken to let the Spanish Government know the serious effect upon opinion in this and other countries should extradition take place after all and Largo Caballero be condemned to be executed.
In conclusion it would help me if you would kindly let me know whether it has been possible for you to do anything to help our friend in his grave position, and whether you have met with any success.
Yours sincerely,
General Secretary.
