As you will be aware, the British Labour Movement has, through its international organisations, assisted towards the maintenance in republican Spain of Homes for children who have had to be evacuated from the war areas. 
In this connection an offer has been received from Miss Grace Ethel Dawes, a former school teacher, to work in a voluntary capacity at one of the Homes as a nurse and governess, and it is desired that immediate advantage should be taken of her offer.
She is, however, debarred from travelling to Spain owing to her passport having been made invalid for that country and I am writing to ask whether, in the circumstances, you would be good enough to remove this obstacle in order that whe may take up this work. We can assure you that she is a thoroughly trustworthy and reliable person and is going to Spain solely for the purpose stated above.
I am enclosing Miss Dawes's passport (No. 248419), in the hope that you will be able to agree to our request.
If at all possible, we would like Miss Dawes to travel to Spain in the very near future, probably on Tuesday or
