              SUMMARY OF LETTER FROM XIXth ARMY CORPS, 66th DIVISION, 16th MIXED BRIGADE, 61st BATTALION, MACHINE GUN COMPANY.

In the field, 29 October, 1938, to the National Council of the Trade Unions, London.

The letter opens with greetings to the British workers, and thanks for the proofs of solidarity which the Spanish workers have received from us, as from their fellow-workers throughout the world.     These proofs demonstrated that the feeling of the workers of the world was one of open solidarity with their Spanish brothers and the cause they were defending.
The present time was one of great responsibility; it was time we finished with war-mongers, and set up an insurmountable barrier to the fatal career of Fascism.
The powerful block to achieve this result was the unity of peace-loving and labour forces. The union of all anti-Fascist groups, all sections of the working class throughout the world, would ensure the disappearance of the obscurantist policies and those leaders who, for reasons of bad faith or of short-sightedness facilitate the work of Fascism.
With the unity of advanced and progressive forces of humanity, this state of weakness which is nowadays evident in the democracies, and which makes them adopt such timid and obscurantist attitudes as that adopted recently over Czechoslovakia.
Unity of all peace-loving forces will be the step which will save the world, which is faced with the warlike appetites of Fascism.
The letter concludes by pointing out that it was unity which in Spain was enabling them day by day to go on to the victory and salvation of Spain.
