Mr. W. M. Citrine,
LONDON
Dear Comrade Citrine,
20th March 1937.
SPAIN
The following is a translation of the telegram addressed by the Spanish Prime Minister and Minister of War to the Presidents of the IFTU and LSI:
On behalf antifascist spanish people and its government we thank you for and heartily reciprocate the greetings received from the international conference we thank you also for your offer of conducting a campaign for republican Spain and reaffirm before the world our resolute will to conquer.
I should like to give you the following information as regards children from Spain.
When the campaign was started to help the children, there were committees in Switzerland, France and Belgium which asked the Spanish Embassy attaches to put them in touch with children. Delegations returning from Spain announced a campaign for bringing the children out of Spain and finding accommodation for them abroad. Then the Spanish Government itself sent a deputation to Paris with special instructions to organise and centralise the work of finding accommodation for the children. This delegation was made up of two comrades, Professor Amos Sabras and Comrade Lambreras. A committee was set up, with the approval of this delegation, with the purpose of centralising the whole organisation of getting the children out of Spain, of setting up reception homes for them, of arranging fur medical examination and the redistribution of the children to colonies in France, Belgium and Switzerland.
