Mr. D. R. Darling, London.
Dear Friend,
Referring to the subject mentioned in your letter of the 22nd February, with regard to getting into touch with various Spanish Aid Committees of London, who could help us by sending articles of prime necessity, I have to inform you that after consultation with the Councillor for Commerce, we are of the opinion that the foodstuffs which we would prefer to receive are the following:- Haricots, peas, Chick-pees, Lentils, Sugar, Flour or Wheat, and coffee.
We are very short of these foods ... so short that in the last few days, the problem of feeding the population is frankly very critical.
If those committees of which you write could do something on these lines to help us, they must start without the least delay.
(Signed) Antonio Ortega.
Propaganda Councillor.
