Dear Comrade Schevenels,
I.F.T.U. & L.S.I. CONFERENCE RESOLUTION,
You will probably have seen from the press that a deputation of the General Council waited upon the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs last Monday, and made representations to him on the lines of the resolution passed at the recent Conference of the I.F.T.U and L.S.I. in London. The interview was private, but an agreed statement was issued, copy of which I send you herewith. I think some reference might be mode to the matter in the I.F.T.U. weekly "Bulletin"
Would you kindly let me know if the C.G.T. or the French Socialist Party, or any other National Centre has approached its Government with the same object. You will appreciate how necessary it is that pressure on the different Governments should be simultaneous.
The attached resolution was passed today by the General Council and the Labour Party Executive, after the report of the interview had been made to them.
On the subject of assistance for our Spanish comrades, I should be glad if you would kindly take note of the contents of the enclosed copy of letter received in London from Gijon. It has been handed to us in order to indicate the special nature of their requirements in food. The situation is similar in the Basque provinces.
