SUBJECT...SPANISH REBELLION  GENERAL CORRESPONDENCE.
HISTORY OF CASE.
1936.
JULY 22 	GENERAL COUNCIL decided to send telegram of congratulation to Spanish Trade Unionists and Socialists, at opportune moment.
July 24 	IFTU enquired by wire whether we favoured meeting of IFTU, or joint meeting with L.S.I. in following. Wired favoured joint meeting. Held July 28.
July 31 	A.S.L.E.& F. report the receipt of appeal from I.T.F. requesting them to keep watchful eye on export of war material to Spanish rebels.
August 1 	Philip Noel-Baker sends correspondence with Senator Branting of Sweden about Transport Unions refusing to handle munitions or other supplies to Spanish rebel ports.
August 6 	Complaint by G. Hicks, M.P. about handling in "Reynolds's" of Paris meeting.
August 7 	London T.C. send copies of correspondence with Caballero, arising out of message of solidarity, and subsequent correspondence with F.O. regarding Caballero's complaint of munitions reaching rebels through Portugal.
Letter from de Brouckere (sent by IFTU) urging British influence on Portugal, openly siding with rebels. Information passed to "authorities concerned."
August 8 	(SEE AUG.14) Summons to European Conference of friends of peace and democracy (signed by Schevenels & Jouhaux), Paris, August 13. Jouhaux wired Aug. 12, urging WMC to attend, but he could not.
Wire from "Socialist Party and Socialist Trade Unions of Catalonia" urgently inviting W.M.C. to go there or send responsible representative to discuss most important matter. Signed Comorera. 
Comorera pronounced bona-fide by IFTU August 10. 
On August 11 he was requested by wire to explain nature of "important matter,"acting on IFTU wire.
August 11 	IFTU send confidential report of de Brouckere on delegation to Madrid,  (filed in documents).
August 12 	Copy of wire from Lamoneda, Spanish Socialist Party, acknowledging greetings.
August 14 	To IFTU, enclosing Dubinsky's wire requesting authorisation to set up U.S. Fund; and proposing regular meetings of LSI & IFTU Presidents and Secretaries to keep in touch with situation.
From N.U.Clerks, asking whether deputation to P.M. or Foreign Sec. is indicated by present position, and whether F.& G.P. had met to consider action. Replied August 15, pointing out matter for joint policy, add that N.C.L. were keeping in very close touch with position.
August 14 	W.Schevenels points out that European Conference for Peace and for Spain had been attended by him in personal capacity and not as IFTU Sec., and that he had not given consent to his name and description being included in the invitation.
