First I wish to apologise for having started this meeting a few minutes after the advertised time. You are aware that in London, at the Central Hall, we have been holding and will hold tomorrow, a Conference of International Trade Union and Socialist organisations. The sessions of conferences of that description are inevitably rather long, and it is not always easy to arrange for speeches - particularly speeches interesting and informative as those we have heard today - to meet the precise hour you have selected.   Because of that we were unable to leave the Conference Hall until half-past six this evening, so that those attending the Conference had to come from that place, have some food, and come along here.     I hope, therefore, you will excuse us for being a little late.
Now we thought we would take advantage of the presence in London of so many eminent figures in the International Labour Movement to endeavour to organise a demonstration in support of our International Solidarity Fund.
We at the Conference are required to deal with questions of very serious policy, involving decisions which have grave consequences on our International Movement, and particularly in regard to the struggle which
